The wedding will constitute a Traditional Wedding called Obugenyi/Kunaga orkuwanzi as regards Bunyoro-Kitara customs and a Church Wedding known as Obusweezi Obukweera. The Traditional wedding will take place on Sat, August 12, 2023 in Kasunga village(12pm – 7pm), Hoima at the Ancestral home of Daisy then the following weekend on Fri 18th, August, 2023 will be the Pre-wedding Party(Omujaato) in Kitende(7pm -10pm) and then church wedding at Saint Augustine Makerere University on Sat 19th, August, 2023 (12-1pm), followed by a Reception at Speke resort Munyoro(4pm – 11pm).

Nansana, Kampala
Kweranga means to get known, others called it Kuranga obuku or Kukingura Irembo in the runyoro language. This is a function where the bride introduces the groom to be, in this function the bride price(Omukaaga) is negotiated, food and drinks are served. The brides family invites between eight to twelve people from the groom side, the guests include elders, parents, siblings and a few close friends. The function is typically held at the brides home.
During this Ceremony, the acceptance and approval of marriage is symbolized by the groom sitting on the father-in-laws laps while the bride sits on the mother in law’s. This arrangement is referred to as Kubukara.

Omujaato is simply a celebration held at both the groom’s and bride’s home the night before their wedding day. An official and public indicator that a girl is being engaged to the suitor. The parents are the major organizers of the event and many relatives and friends gather to dance, eat and drink, as they say good bye to the bride or groom-to-be.

Buganyiro is a set of items given to the parents of the bride at down on the day of wedding.
Buganyiro comes from the work Kuganya(to wheep), Buganyiro items are to console the brides parents.
Buganyiro is attended by two or three people who pick up the bride.(elder, sister and cousin)

1. Envelope for Omuko
2. Gifts for Buganyiro
– Ekita/Ebita (kurugira obukoto bweka) bya Tonto, – Ensade,
– Endeku,
– Embuzi, n’ebirungo.
– Etadoba, Amafuta getadoba hamu nakendo.
3. Who to pick up the bride(uncle or brother) wearing a Kanzu
4. Person picking the bride must specify the reason for picking up the bride,
5. Bride must be dressed in Omwenagiro/Suuka

Saint Augustine Chapel, Makerere
Obusweezi Oburukweera is the church wedding. The main features are bride “given away” by her father/family; readings from the Bible; homily; rite of marriage including the blessing of the rings; exchange of vows and rings; prayers said for the couple & sacred blessing of the marriage by the priest; signing of the register of marriages and marriage certificate.

4.00pm – 11.30pm
Speke Resort and Conference Center Munyongo Okiwnura is to host in Runyoro, this is the wedding reception/celebration after the church marriage. Dressing Code or men, can be dark tuxedo, a white dress shirt, a coordinating bow tie, a cummerbund, and suspenders (optional), Dress shoes, like oxfords, are suitable. Women can wear either a long gown or a dressy cocktail dress. Again, heels are preferable.

At the Brides New Home.
This function is held a week after the couple is married, The parents of the bride come to thier new home, cook for them and ask her to get out of the bedroom, which in the modern society is honeymoon.
Note: In the old transition’s, the bride would stay with the groom in a room for a whole week until this function is held to get them out of the room(ekisika)
